5g communication frequency band and operation mode

In order to fully deploy 5g mobile communications, the frequency used in each country has gradually become clearer and can be roughly divided into two groups.

The first frequency band defined by 3GPP is from 410mhz to 7125mhz, which is described as sub-6ghz or sub-7ghz. This is a frequency band that LTE / LTE advanced (LTE-A) and WLAN technologies are being used or expanded in recent years. It has relatively few technical problems (such as RF characteristics), and, depending on the frequency selected, it has the advantage of utilizing RF resources that have been previously validated for 3G (W-CDMA) and 4G (LTE / LTE-A). One drawback is that because most of the frequencies are already in use, it is impossible to guarantee an orderly broadband band.

The second band is roughly from 30ghz to 100GHz; 3GPP defines 24250 MHz and 52600 MHz *1 Because this frequency band is hardly used, it can guarantee broadband, and has the advantage of easily supporting high-speed and large-capacity data transmission. One of its disadvantages is that the attenuation value of Ota signal is large. Due to the lack of practical use of mobile operators, there are many technical problems that must be eliminated.

In addition to these two bands, there are two modes of operation: 1. Non independent (NSA) mode combining 5g and LTE / LTE-A and 2's new radio (NR) technology. Independent (SA) mode using unique 5g NR technology, in which control between base station and mobile terminal (UE) is used to send and receive data.
